Red Dead RevolverRed Dead Revolver - Story Mission Guide

Ugly Streetfight

Published by Psy
Last Updated

Red avenges the murder of his dog in the town of Widow's Patch.

Chapter 3

"This little town has fallen on hard times and is on its last legs. The only thing keeping the town alive is the O'Gradys."

PRE-MISSION SHOP

Before the mission starts, you'll be given the option to purchase the following items.

  • Revolver - $100
  • Shovel - $13
  • Stethoscope - $700
    • Automatically unlocked if you get an Excellent rating in Chapter 2 - Bounty Hunter
Cutscene

Red arrives in Widow's Patch with a cart full of dead bodies. He asks Sheriff O'Grady "How much for the lot?" but the Sheriff explains "you did good, son, but you're out of luck. Take a look around, there ain't much here. I got nothing to offer you. The Ugly Gang has done destroyed my town!".

Three undesirables are then heard talking about Red's dog. "That damn dog's gone and relieved himself all over them fancy boots of yours!" says one of the men. The guy with the wet feet then shoots the dog dead, calling it a "Damn varmint!".

Red pulls out his pistol and turns around to face them, ready to dish out justice.

EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

You must successfully pass at least 3 of these 4 targets.

  • Accuracy: 70%
  • Damage Taken: 125%
  • Time: 5:00
  • Best Combo: $200

Once the level starts and you're in control, there are 4 enemies you'll need to take down.

Three of them will be just up the path from where you start, and the fourth - "Chicken" is usually hanging around near the water tower in the center of town. Chicken is the only enemy with a healthbar on the screen, but he's one of the weakest of the mini-bosses you'll face in the game and doesn't take much more damage than a regular enemy to eliminate.

You'll also be told that pressing X while aiming your gun will cause Red to "roll dodge". This will come in very useful in later fights as it gives you a very short period of invincibility right as you roll, allowing you to avoid major damage from things like explosions.

None of the enemies pose much of a threat and a couple of headshots should take each of them down. Don't forget to use your Deadeye if you've filled any of the bars.

Cutscene

Three enemies with rifles will appear on the rooftops looking down on Red.

If you switch to a ranged weapon and you're holding a rifle, you'll be told you can press R3 to zoom. This makes it much easier to hit targets at a distance, or makes it easier to get headshots on closer enemies. Fire away at the 3 rooftop enemies. The first one you kill will trigger a mini-cutscene where they fall off the roof.

Cutscene

Four more enemies will show up, coming out of the doorways around the town. You'll only see 3 of them in the cutscene however.

Prepare to move as you'll be somewhat surrounded with enemies at all sides of the town. The best technique is to activate Deadeye so you can dodge any shots that immediately come your way and target the enemies you see. You'll have another mini-boss to take down called Hedgehog, whose health bar will appear on the screen, but once again he's not too much of a threat.

There are usually 3 enemies at ground level, and one at the top floor of a wooden balcony at the end of the street, so fire away and take them all down.

You'll find a health pickup inside an open building near the center of the area if you need it.

Cutscene

The game will then tell you to "Get ready for a dueling showdown!". A short time later, Red will be standing face to face with an enemy (Whiskey) who has come out of the saloon. The game tells you "Ok, time to learn how to duel" then you're given the option to press Square to begin the tutorial, or Triangle to skip it.

Dueling Tutorial

If you choose to accept the tutorial, the game will explain there are 4 phases to a duel. The camera will be locked behind Red, focusing on his hand near his holster.

Stage 1 is the "Grab". You need to pull back on the right analog stick to move Red's hand down to grab his gun. A top tip for dueling is that you'll notice the gun flashes between light and dark. You want to pull back when the gun is dark as this is when Red's hand is closest to it. If you pull back when it's light, Red will miss the gun and you'll take longer to fire, usually resulting in your death.

Step 2 is the "Draw". You do this by pushing the right analog stick forward. The idea is you'll pull back to grab the gun, then immediately push forward to draw it. You should draw as soon as you've grabbed the gun, so flick the stick back then forward in almost a single motion.

Stage 3 is "Acquiring Locks". After you draw the gun, the slow motion phase begins. You'll have a few seconds to target the enemy with Deadeye target locks. Moving the right analog stick will allow you to move your cursor over the enemy. The reticle will cycle between 3 different shot types: Poor Shot (yellow), Hit (dark red) and Critical Hit (bright red).

You ideally want to only lock in critical hits as they deal the most damage, but regular hits are good too. Try not to lock in any yellow shots or they'll pretty much be useless.

You can lock up to 6 shots by pressing the R1 button as you move the cursor. You'll want to wait for the cursor to reach the bright red if possible, but don't take too long because you only have around 5 seconds to set your targets before the enemy fires back.

The final stage is "Firing". Once all 6 locks have been placed, or the slow motion phase times out, Red will fire. You can end the slow motion phase early by pressing R2. It's very important that you either lock in 6 shots as quickly as you can (even if some of them are yellow or missing the target), or lock in a couple of critical shots then press R2 to end the slow motion phase.

Red won't fire until one of those things happens, and some enemies will open fire on you before the slow motion ends, even if you've lined up some perfectly good critical headshots. Getting some good shots off quickly is much better than taking too long to line up perfect shots.

After the tutorial you'll be told "Ok, let's give the whole dueling sequence a try". The camera will reset and you're told "Grab, Draw, then press the R1 button to gain 6 locks and fire. Use R2 for early fire".

Do as you've been instructed and hit the enemy with at least one critical shot. Given this is the first duel you'll experience, it's not too challenging, but learning the technique is extremely important as you'll face much more difficult challenges later in the game where you'll barely have 2 seconds to grab your gun and fire off shots before you're killed instantly.

Once you've successfully won the duel, the game will ask if you'd like to practice again. If it's your first time I recommend you do it a few times until you know exactly what you're doing. You can press Square to retry, X to advance or Triangle to skip to gameplay. Pressing X will see you replay the duel, but this time for real. Try to get a headshot on the enemy and he should go down in a heap as blood spurts out of his face.

After winning the duel against Whiskey, Red subtly tips his hat towards his fallen foe.

You'll appear back on foot in front of the saloon for a few seconds. Try to take this opportunity to run to the other end of the town...

Cutscene

The door of the Delmonico's Restaurant flies open and a man with long blonde hair walks out shouting "I'm looking at a dead man".

You'll then see a health bar for "Gigolo" appear on the screen. You need to take him out. He'll only appear for a few seconds, so if you're unable to get his health all of the way down, he'll disappear back into the restaurant and come out of a different building in the town. He'll also bring some buddies with him. The best technique is to get as close as you can then target him with Deadeye. 6 decent shots should take him down. Otherwise, just keep firing away every time you see him reappear.

Keep shooting until Gigolo is dead, then another cutscene will kick in.

Cutscene

The door of a white building at the end of the street flies open and the Sheriff jumps out, being pursued by Ugly Chris. "Where you running off to Sheriff?! You might have beaten my gang, but you ain't gonna get by me!"

You're now at a boss fight, highlighted by the "Ugly" health bar at the top right of the screen. The game explains "Ugly Chris is a real coward, he uses the innocent as shields". You'll then see him grab Sheriff O'Grady and hold him up as a human shield, while also firing off shots towards you with his free hand.

You've got to be very careful not to shoot the Sheriff, but you should be able to target Chris' hand as he fires at you with his gun. A couple of shots into his hand or feet and he'll temporarily drop the Sheriff giving you an opportunity to blast away at Ugly Chris' face.

Keep firing away when you can and eventually you'll get his health bar down before seeing Chris collapse on the floor. Be careful about using Deadeye during this fight as some of the bullets can accidentally hit the Sheriff so you might be better off firing manually for this fight, at least until you've gotten Chris to drop the Sheriff.

Cutscene

A woman calls out to Red; "Excuse me, mister! Mister, please! Can you help me? You've got to help my pa!". "There's no doctor left in this town! The closest doctor is in Brimstone" explains the Sheriff as his daughter passes him over to Red who holds him up and helps him walk. "Sheriff Bartlett might offer you a handsome reward if you can get me there" explains Sheriff O'Grady.

The Sheriff's daughter, Katie, says she'll send a telegram and tell them about your arrival as Red and the Sheriff make their way out of Widow's Patch.

Tips

This challenge should be fairly straightforward. Work your way through the mission as usual then when you reach the final boss fight, be extremely careful to avoid hitting the sheriff as he's being held up as a human shield by Ugly Chris. It's probably safer if you avoid using Deadeye because sometimes the bullets miss the target depending on how Red turns his body while firing. Only shoot when you're 100% sure you're going to miss the sheriff.

You should be able to shoot at Ugly Chris' hand which he's using to fire his gun at you. This will make him drop the Sheriff temporarily so you can fire off a few quick headshots until he picks him back up.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
