Battle Royale
Red enters the annual Battle Royale dueling contest in Brimstone.
Chapter 23
"A contest filled with blood and bullets on the streets of our fair city. It's easy to condemn it, but it's hard not to watch."
At the start of this level, you'll be allowed to select your weapons from all of those you own. Ensure you pick the most powerful side arm you can access which will probably be the Widowmaker if you could afford it from the Brimstone gun shop.
Standing on a wooden balcony, flanked by men with rifles, Sheriff Bartlett introduces the challengers.
"He's killed so many men down south, he has to come up north to find some more; Senor Gabriel Navarro!"
"Challenging him, a man of mystery. Some of you may have heard all of the recent bounty hunting he did on behalf of the town. Ladies and gentlemen, Red!"
Not applicable for this mission.
You're now in a duel with Gabriel Navarro. It's no different to the single-enemy duels you've been involved in before, although your reflexes will have to improve because Gabriel will open fire a lot quicker than the earlier duel enemies you've faced.
For all of these duels, my tactic is to hold down on the right analog stick while the cutscene is playing. Keep an eye on Red's hand and as soon as it goes down to its lowest point, flick the right stick forward to draw the weapon.
Quickly try to paint at least two or three red targets on Navarro. Don't rush it, just make sure you tag him when it goes red. Try very hard to get a critical hit on his head. You'll spot Navarro pull out his gun and prepare to open fire, so you might not have time to paint all 6 targets on him. As soon as you've got 2 or 3 red targets. press R2 quickly to end the slow motion which will see Red fire his shots.
If you're too slow at painting your 6 targets, it's quite likely you'll be shot first by Navarro which will kill you and require you to restart the duel.
If you timed it right, you should take down Navarro without receiving so much as a scratch.
As is customary, Red will tip his hat towards Navarro.
A short scrapbook style cutscene plays, showing Jack Swift, Mr. Kelley, Annie Stoakes and Kid Cougar eliminating their targets.
Soon after, Jack and Annie are talking with a man who says "That should leave a bruise!"
Sheriff Bartlett interrupts the conversation and introduces the next opponent.
"I don't reckon he should be so eager to get himself killed, but rules is the rules and there's no denying he's quick on the draw. He can't shave, but he sure can shoot. The challenger - Kid Cougar!"
You're now in a duel with Kid Cougar.
Follow the same instructions as above and ensure you manage to paint him with at least three red targets, then press R2 (or R1 quickly multiple times to paint the rest of the targets) and ensure you get your shots off before Kid Cougar does.
These duels are all about quickness and quantity over quality. Don't try to get the perfect critical headshot, or try to paint all 6 targets on the enemies - you don't have time. Paint anything red you can and get your shots off as quickly as possible.
If you hit him with a few decent shots, he should go down. Otherwise he'll fire first and kill Red, leaving you to restart the entire chapter - which means redoing the first duel too.
After you kill Kid Cougar, you'll appear inside the Brimstone saloon. In order to continue to the next level, you must enter the bedroom upstairs. Until you enter the room, this chapter technically isn't finished and quitting out at this point will mean you need to replay the two duels with Navarro and Kid Cougar.
There are no rewards for completing this mission as it rolls onto the next mission automatically.
This mission is not available in Bounty Hunter Mode.
Next Mission
After the duel with Kid Cougar, you'll appear inside the Brimstone Saloon. You can do one final round of shopping at the bar, but you'll need to head upstairs and enter the bedroom to officially complete the level.

After entering the bedroom in the Saloon, you'll begin the next chapter.
