Bandits continue to attack the train to Brimstone. Red must rescue and protect the engineer.

Chapter 5

"Much has been written about the Pan-Atlantic Railroad being the greatest feat of engineering in the 19th century."

This mission starts immediately following the completion of the previous mission

The Traincar
Red is involved in a duel on the train to Brimstone.

Red starts on foot, on top of the moving train. After a few seconds, an enemy will appear at the top of the carriage in front of you and jump down, so be prepared to open fire.

Once he's dead, head towards the carriage he jumped down from and you'll discover you can press X (when you're not aiming) to jump. If there's anything you can climb on, your character, in this case Red, will grab on and slowly pull himself up. You'll use this numerous times over the course of the game, and particularly throughout this mission.

Run along the top of the next train carriage as you head towards the back of the moving train then you'll see a lower section with some large logs and crates. As you drop down to it, two enemies will pop out from behind the obstacles and another will be standing on top of the next carriage looking down, so carefully take them out without falling off the train. If you do get too close to the edge, Red will usually grab on and pull himself back up but you can fall off and die.

You don't actually have to kill all of the enemies in this level, if you want, you can just run past them and climb up onto the next carriage, making your way to the very back of the train, however the enemies will drop ammo and potentially health if you do kill them which may be useful. You'll obviously also earn cash for each shot you hit them with too.

Two more enemies will meet you on top of the next two higher train carriages as you run along the top. You should be able to take them out fairly easily, particularly if you use a rifle and zoom in to shoot them from long range. A third enemy will be waiting lower down just past the end of the carriage and he'll be throwing fire bottles, so stay away from him or you'll catch fire and slowly lose health.

As you reach the back of the train, a health bar will appear at the top right of the screen labelled "Fawler". This mini-boss is wielding knives so you don't want to let him get too close to you or he'll get a bit stabby.

Try to damage him from distance when you spot him, then get a bit closer and remember to use Deadeye to fill him full of lead. 5 or 6 decent shots should take him down and he'll usually fall off the side of the train.

Cutscene

A woman's scream rings out before she asks "Why is the train speeding up? Something must have happened to the engineer!" before her high pitched wail bursts your eardrums again.

This will probably get quite annoying as this section of the level can be quite tricky and is very easy to fail, meaning you might need to restart from here and listen to her screams multiple times if you die.

You now need to make your way back along the train to the very front where you'll find the Engineer. The game explains you can press the L3 button to duck under high obstacles.

You'll need to do this as the journey back to the front of the train is filled with dangers. When you're standing on top of the higher carriages, you'll need to duck under thin wooden bars which will knock you down and backwards, causing damage, and also jump over larger wooden platforms.

The reason this is so tricky is because you need to keep moving forward at the same time. Getting knocked down can set you back a carriage or two and if you end up getting knocked off the train, you're screwed. The game will tell you "It's a long walk to Brimstone" as Red heads down the tracks. At this point, you'll fail and restart from the screaming woman.

There is a slight glitch on this level whereby standing completely still will make you avoid the smaller (higher) wooden bars. They'll pass straight through you without causing any damage however this is a bit hit and miss and only seems to work if you're not fully on the highest part of the train. You can also shoot the wooden bars to break them before they hit you, but the best plan is to duck down when you see them coming, then run forward as fast as you can to drop down to the next carriage.

As you work your way forward, there will be an almost endless supply of enemies who will appear, particularly on the wooden platforms you need to jump over. If you fail to jump over these platforms, you'll either get knocked backwards, or even worse you'll end up landing on top of them which stops you in your tracks while the train speeds away. After a few seconds it'll be gone and you'll fail the mission by losing the train.

Run towards the wooden platforms then a few meters before it arrives, press X to jump. It's possible to time it right so that Red is in the air the whole time that the platform passes under him, but as long as you jump before it hits you in the shins, you'll at the very least land on top of it and can just keep running forward to avoid losing much time.

Keep working your way forward as quickly as you can and eventually you'll get the timing down to jump over the platforms. As you reach the front of the train, a health bar will be displayed for the "Engineer" and another labelled "Hoss". The Engineer is being held hostage by Hoss so you need to reach him and take him down as quickly as possible.

Don't stand on top of the train and shoot at him, make sure you drop down to the front so you're safe from the platforms and wooden bars that can still whack you in the face.

Use Deadeye and aim for headshots to take out Hoss, while being careful not to damage the Engineer. His health bar isn't huge so a full six shots of Deadeye then a few extra blasts should take him out.

Cutscene

The Engineer begins working to slow down the train, telling Red "This train is going to fly off the tracks! I got to slow it down!".

He then pulls the brakes as sparks start flying out of the wheels and says "Whew! That was close". The Engineer continues "Hey, thanks for saving me. Here, let me patch you up a bit".

Your health should be refilled now and you're told "Protect the Engineer from the Pedroza brothers for 3 minutes".

The train exits the walled canyon it was driving down and is now out in the open desert, with a number of enemies on horseback chasing after, shooting and in some cases boarding the train. A 3 minute countdown timer is displayed on the screen.

This part of the level is reasonably straight forward. Just stay near the Engineer and wait for enemies to get close. A few of them will jump over the roof of the train and make they way to the front, but the majority will appear alongside the train on horses.

When the horseback enemies reach the front of the train they can get a good shot on the Engineer and they may jump onto the front of the train and shoot at him from close range, so ensure you don't let them get close. Feel free to use yourself as a shield to protect the Engineer by standing between him and the enemies.

You can stand on top of the train and fire at the enemies as they approach which will allow you to get more kills and possibly a decent combo bonus, remembering that Deadeye is useful to target distant enemies.

Don't go too far though, stick near the Engineer so you can take out any enemies who get too close.

Just keep him alive until the 3 minute timer reaches zero. It doesn't matter if there are still enemies nearby when the timer ends.

Cutscene

The Engineer calls out "Next stop, Brimstone", confirming you made it safely enough.

We then see the train arrive in Brimstone as a man waves it in, saying "The Pan-Atlantic Railroad Western Express is now arriving at Brimstone station from Widow's Patch and points east!"

After completing the story, you'll be able to replay each mission in "Bounty Hunter Mode" which includes an optional objective to complete. Beating the mission and completing the objective will provide a reward.

Tips

The time limit for this one is quite tight but luckly a countdown timer is displayed on the screen so you can see how you're doing. You're going to need to get a move on and climb up and run along the train as quickly as you can. Invincibility makes this a much easier task as you can ignore most of the other enemies, although you'll still need to perfect the skills of ducking and jumping the wooden bridges that can knock you down and cost you valuable seconds. Shooting the smaller wooden platforms can break them, but you'll always need to jump onto or over the bigger platforms.

Once you reach the front of the train you'll encounter Hoss holding the engineer hostage. The objective is passed as soon as you kill him.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.

Next Mission

After this level, you'll end up in the town of Brimstone which you can freely explore, talk to civilians and visit a number of shops to spend that hard earned cash.
