Range War

Annie Stoakes defends her ranch from bandits who set fire to her barn.

Chapter 11

"When Annie's father passed on, he left her a fine stretch of land near Bear Mountain, along with enough money to build a ranch and fulfil her dream."

For this level, you'll control Annie Stoakes, the only female playable character in the game.

Cutscene

Upon arriving at her ranch, Annie Stoakes spots a note attached to the entrance gate.

"Sorry, Annie, but the Governor made us a better offer. Good luck. - SAM" it reads.

"God not you too, Sam!" she cries.

Suddenly she spots her house on fire and runs over to investigate.
EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

You must successfully pass at least 3 of these 4 targets.

  • Accuracy: 66%
  • Damage Taken: 50%
  • Time: 7:00
  • Best Combo: $150

As soon as the level starts, you're already involved in a mini-boss fight with Gilbert and Dirk. Their two health bars are aleady on the screen. You'll find them to the right, Gilbert starts off inside the barn, Dirk will likely run outside and appear in front of you. They'll both be riding around on horses.

They're not heavily armored so 5 or 6 decent shots with Annie's rifle, including a couple of headshots should take them down.

Annie doesn't have "Deadeye" where she can go into slow motion like Red or paint targets like Jack Swift, however pressing R2 when you have a Deadeye bar filled will allow her to use the secondary fire function of her rifle where she'll fire an explosive blast. You need to be quite accurate with this as it's not really an 'area effect' type weapon - you need to hit your target with it - but if you do, it's likely you'll knock them down, particularly if they're riding an animal.

Keep running around the ranch hunting down the two mini-bosses until they're both down. The second you do, you're told to "Free the livestock from the burning barn".

Head into the barn and you'll see it's on fire. Two enemies will appear in the rafters at the top of the barn, one at each side, but only once you see the message displayed on the screen. You need to kill them both. In addition, you also need to free all of the trapped animals. Annie mentions that the handles will be too hot to touch because of the fire, so you need to shoot them in order to open the gates.

Stand back when you shoot the handle on each of the locked barn gates as a bull will either come charging out which can knock you down, or there'll be an enemy inside who you'll need to shoot. The crosshair will go red when you're aiming at the handle so you'll know you're aiming at the right thing.

Continue working your way through all 7 gates which need to be opened and kill the enemies who may appear from inside - some of which might set themselves on fire and die before you have a chance to shoot them.

Cutscene

Four soldiers casually walk through the main entrance gate to the ranch as one of them says "I've got something for you. Come out and play".

Run out of the barn to the main entrance where you'll encounter the four enemies. Use dodge-roll to move around avoiding their shots and try to take them down with headshots. If you're playing on Bounty Hunter mode, I personally find these 4 enemies your best chance of getting a $200 combo, but you'll need to toy with them and try to shoot them in the feet or arms multiple times before killing them to boost the combo value.

Cutscene

Once the four enemies are dead, the camera focuses on the other side of the ranch as a number of enemies make their way out of a bush and down the hill to attack.

There are four enemies who will usually stand on the hill and open fire, however they can run down and enter the ranch too. Annie's "Faith" rifle has great zoom range on it, so aim and press R3 to zoom in which will allow you to shoot them from quite a distance.

After the four enemies are taken care of, another four will come out of the same bush. The same applies, try to take them out from distance before they can get close.

Another two enemies will also appear throughout the fight, making 10 in total. There's a health potion past the farm house to the left if you need it.

Cutscene

A short time later, two more cowboys, this time riding buffalo, enter through the main ranch gate.

Buff and Holstein's health bars are on the screen now and they're the final two bosses in this level. They're pretty similar to the first two you dealt with, although their buffalo can charge at you, knocking you down. If they get close, they will also throw their lasso which can trap Annie and you'll need to rapidly shake the left stick left and right to free her.

Try to keep some distance between yourself and the enemies so they need to charge straight towards you, then you should be able to pick up a number of headshots which will knock their health down quite quickly.

Keep dodging when they get close and keep firing away and they'll both go down eventually. The worst part is probably just the amount of running around you need to do to find them as they'll often run around the other side of the barn.

You can get on one of your bulls and ride it around which makes it a little bit quicker to get around the area, but it's certainly easier to aim and dodge while you're on foot.

Keep blasting away until they're both down.

Cutscene

Red arrives as Annie is surveying the damage done by the attack on the ranch. She points her gun at him, but he tips his hat and says "Ma'am" which puts her at ease.

"Do I know you, stranger?" asks Annie.

"Tell me about the Gold Mine in Bear Mountain" requests Red.

"I know nothing about a gold mine" responds Annie. "You might want to take a trip on down to the saloon in Brimstone. It's always littered with a bunch of drunks yapping about it. But watch yourself mister. You want no business with the folks in that town". "This place is all I've ever known" she continues while looking back at her ranch.

"Ma'am" says Red, handing her a poster advertising the Brimstone Battle Royale.

"Five thousand pieces in gold. This'll help me keep my ranch!" Annie exclaims excitedly as Red walks away to visit the saloon in Brimstone.

Tips

This was one of the toughest Bounty Hunter challenges because you can't rely on Deadeye to help keep the combos going. You're going to need to manually shoot the enemies.

In order to get a large combo, you're actually best off disabling the "Golden Gun" cheat because you don't want to kill enemies in one shot, you want to shoot them multiple times to increase their value before you kill them.

If you have these cheats unlocked, enable Invincibility and Infinite Deadeye - although Annie doesn't actually have Deadeye, she fires an explosive shot whenever you try to use it, but it's not really that useful.

The best place I found to get the combo is just after a mini-cutscene where four enemies walk in through the main gate of the farm, right after you've rescued all of the animals in the barn.

Quickly run outside and shoot at the feet of the enemies. Obviously Invincibility helps a lot here as you can stand right in front of them, but try to hit them in the feet to boost up the monetary value of the combo. I'm not exactly sure how I did it, but firing between some enemies feet caused them to dance around while trying to avoid my bullets so I'm not sure if that counts towards the combo.

Ultimtely, you're going to need to shoot each of the enemies a couple of times before you kill them, then work your way through at least 3 of the 4 before the combo ends.

The game will tell you that you completed the challenge when your combo ends, although you'll still need to complete the mission. Once you see the combo has been achieved, turn on Golden Gun again to make the rest of the mission quicker and easier.

If you don't get the combo during the outlined part of the mission, just restart the level from the pause menu because that's the best place to go for it and it won't take long for you to get back there to try again.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
