Saloon Fight

Published by Psy
Last Updated

Red uses a broken bottle to fight drunkards and defend showgirls in the saloon.

Info

Due to what we assume is a developer oversight, this level is actually known by 2 different names in-game. The single player story level is officially labelled "Bar Fight" on the final completion screen, however replaying the level in Bounty Hunter mode sees it labelled as "Saloon Fight".

Chapter 12

"Everybody ends up in the Brimstone Saloon. With all the gold coming through, it seems like the drinks never stop flowing."

Cutscene

Red enters the Brimstone saloon as the drinks are flowing. He waves over the bartender who begins to make him a drink.

The camera cuts to a table of drunkards who are deep in discussion. One of the men states "All I'm saying, is if it was me that lost an arm, well maybe, but a cannon? Well that's too much gun for any man!".

Another man chimes in "Cork your whisky holes. You didn't know him before, like I did. Only a cannon could replace that man's arm".

This causes Red to turn around and take notice. After all, they're talking about Colonel Daren, the man who killed Red's parents and who lost his arm due to Red's gunshot.

"How did he lose his arm?" asks Red.

"We ain't telling you nothing stranger! Near as I can tell, we ain't even talking to you! Take a walk!" responds the man.

Red grabs a bottle from the bar, smashes it and holds the broken end against his throat. "Answer my question and I'll be on my way".

"Well shut up! Don't tell this stinking prairie dog nothing! Ain't that right, Sam?" responds the man, unafraid of Red's threats.

"I reckon so..." responds Sam, a huge guy who has just arrived on the scene. "Say goodbye, Mister".

Red immediately drops the man he has hold of and backs away before all hell breaks loose in the saloon.

EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

You must successfully pass at least 3 of these 4 targets.

  • Accuracy: 73%
  • Damage Taken: 100%
  • Time: 10:00
  • Best Combo: $100

Once you're in control of Red, there are three health bars displayed at the top left of the screen; Megan, Tammy and Rachel. They are the showgirls who are running around the saloon. You need to protect them because the drunkards will attack them and try to carry them away.

Before you do anything, there's a secret shop on this level which you can only access during this part of the fight. Head up the stairs and go into the first open doorway you come to where you should spot two women in a bath tub. Press Square to talk to them and they'll offer you the chance to purchase a "Hot Bath" for $1500 which will also give you a permanent increase to your maximum health.

SECRET SHOP

Talk to the women in the bath tub on the top floor during the saloon fight.

  • Hot Bath - $1500
    • Increases Max Health

The remainder of this part of the level will require you to chase after the men downstairs and either fight them with your fists, use a broken bottle to stab them, or throw bottles at them. If you head upstairs, you'll be able to pick up a bunch of extra bottles, but you'll occasionally get them when knocking down the enemies.

Throwing the bottles and getting a direct hit seems to be the fastest way to take them down for good. Stabbing or hitting them will knock them out temporarily, but they'll get back up after awhile. You'll still need to keep fighting away for a good 3 minutes or so regardless, then the enemies seem to start taking more damage and you can gradually kill them one by one.

You can use Deadeye when throwing the bottles which can make it easier to hit the targets, but be careful not to hit the girls as I believe you can damage them. You can lose one, but if two girls are killed, you'll fail the level.

Keep launching bottles or swinging your fists until all of the men are taken care of. Be aware that there are some upstairs too and one might be in the bathroom, seemingly thinking he can get at the girls in there.

Cutscene

"You're pretty good in a fight, stranger. The only problem is you lost your guns in all the ruckus" says the girl behind the bar. "Here you go" she continues as she hands a revolver back to Red.

"Looks like you still got some business with them brothers. They ain't what you call kindly fellows" she explains.

"Open the damn door, woman!" demands Red.

"Well, good luck to you, but I got to look out for myself, so this door is getting locked behind you" she tells Red who walks through the door into the back room.

Next door, three men are talking in front of a stage when Red walks in ready for a duel.

"Well look at what we got here!" says Dan, the main man, as his buddies back out of the way. "If there's anything I can't stand, it's a varmint what don't know it's own business".

You're now in a duel with Dan.

He'll fire off his shots slightly quicker than previous duels you've been involved in, so you'll need to be quicker at painting your targets, but there's only one person to worry about this time which makes it slightly easier too. Try to hit him with 2 or 3 critical (red) hits, and if possible, put at least one in his head.

If you fail, he'll kill you, but you'll be able to continue at the start of the duel so you won't lose too much time.

Once he's dead, you'll need to take care of the three enemies who were with him before.

They'll flip over tables and take cover behind them. You can do the same if you stand next to one and press the R1 button to kick or Circle button to punch a table over, but the three of them should be quite straight forward to take down with a couple of headshots, particularly if you flank them while they hide behind cover.

Cutscene

The curtain on the stage raises up and two dancing showgirls appear, pulling out rifles and pointing them towards Red.

A number of enemies also gather on the top floor of the room with weapons drawn.

Eventually Sam appears and says "Now the real show begins!".

Sam's health bar is displayed at the top right of the screen. He's on the floor above and will throw barrels at you if he can see you. Move to the back of the room so you're under the balcony above which should keep you in cover while you take out the two girls on the stage who will pop out to shoot at you.

It might be easier to run and jump onto the stage where you can take out the girls more quickly. From there you'll also be able to open fire on Sam and his buddies on the top floor.

Sam will keep throwing barrels at you, so take the opportunity to pop a few bullets in his face while he does so. The twin revolvers work well in this level as they give you a chance to stun him and perfect your aim to get headshot after headshot.

Once Sam is down to around 50% health, he'll usually jump down to the same level as you. From now you'll need to treat him like a bull. He'll stand still and charge at you, so lure him towards something, such as one of the tables then quickly move out of the way at the last second and let him crash into it. He'll be stunned for a few seconds, so take your opportunity to blast him with more headshots.

Once you've done this a few times, you'll probably have used up all of the tables on the main floor, so the next best thing is to stand in front of the stage. Just as he's about to crash into you, jump onto the stage or roll out of the way and he'll charge head first into it and stun himself again.

Keep this up for the rest of the fight and keep getting headshots when possible until he's finally dead.

Cutscene

After the fight, Red puts away his pistol as Sheriff Bartlett enters the room with his pistol drawn.

"Alright, there bounty hunter. That's enough disturbing the peace for one day. Hand over the weapon" he demands of Red.

Red angrily walks over towards him, causing the Sheriff to step backwards. "I said, hand it over!" shouts the Sheriff.

Red draws his pistol then flips it around to hand it to Sheriff Bartlett who takes it from him.

A short time later, Red is behind bars in the Sheriff's office.

"Fellow such as yourself should know better than to stick his nose where it don't belong" explains Sheriff Bartlett as Red sits down on the bed of his cell.

"Tell me about the one-armed man" requests Red.

"Hahahaha! What's it to you?" asks the Sheriff.

"He killed my folks!" responds Red.

"Well, I'll be darned. I heard rumors you were alive but never believed it. You're Nate Harlow's son, Red!" exclaims the Sheriff.

"Tell me what you know about the death of my family" demands Red.

"You see, it all happened about 12 years ago, when the U.S. cavalry made a little incursion south of the border..."

The screen fades to black.

Tips

The cheats are a huge help here. Invincibility will obviously stop you needing to worry about being hurt, but Golden Gun allows you to kill the enemies with a single attack - either by throwing a bottle, stabbing them with one or even just punching them. Infinite Deadeye also makes it easier to target the enemies to throw a bottle at them.

If you run out of bottles, there's usually a few floating around upstairs and you'll sometimes get them from killing enemies.

Run around and keep using Deadeye to target the enemies then throw bottles at them, being especially careful to stop them before they carry the girls upstairs.

The game will tell you immediately if one of the girls is killed and will offer you the chance to restart the challenge.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
