The Traitor

General Javier Diego holds off the U.S. Army in an explosive battle at the Border Ridge crossing.

Chapter 13

"Before he became the wealthy man he is today, a remote bridge over the river was General Diego's favorite smuggling route."

You'll take control of General Javier Diego for this level.

Cutscene

General Diego is organising his troops while examining a map on top of a crate. "Hahahaha! We have those Gringos exactly where we want them!" he says excitedly.

"Generalissimo, you're not planning to take on the entire Yankee army?" asks Colonel Daren.

"You don't expect me to answer a stupid question like that? Prepare the artillery!" demands Diego which sends Colonel Daren up the hill towards his cannons.

EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

You must successfully pass at least 3 of these 4 targets.

  • Accuracy: 66%
  • Damage Taken: 100%
  • Time: 10:00
  • Best Combo: $100

Once you're in control of General Diego, you'll be equipped with his unique rifle "Martillo Del Dios" (Hammer of God). There's a battle raging for control of the bridge with artillery on both sides of the river.

You need to work your way forwards and take out a number of the Yankee soldiers who are wearing blue outfits. You'll find a few enemies on the bridge, but the majority will be in the water or on the slopes at the American side of the bridge.

There are two health bars on your screen for Cleu and Jose, however you don't need to worry about them at all. They're there to help you, but it doesn't matter if they get killed.

I'm not 100% clear on exactly what you need to do with regards to objectives for this level, but once you kill 7 or 8 of the Yankee soldiers, which should take a minute or so, a cutscene should kick in. The soldiers seem to keep spawning so I believe there's a set number you need to kill in order to progress the level.

Cutscene

A crazy looking soldier wearing green waves his arms frantically while standing in front of the artillery.

The camera then cuts to the other side of the river, focusing on the American cannons as a message says "You need to weaken the US cannon artillery. Command your battalion to fire by using your Flare Rifle."

The instructions continue; "Draw your rifle and press the R2 button to load a flare. Aim at a US cannon and press R1 to fire the flare. Your army's cannons will fire at the flare location. Now, attack the US cannons!"

When you're back in control of Diego, you'll be half way across the bridge, facing the American cannons. To light a flare, you need to press the R2 button, the same way you'd usually trigger Deadeye. Once the flare has been attached to your rifle, aim at one of the cannons on the hillside until your crosshair turns red then press R1 to fire a shot. The flare will land on the cannon then a few seconds later, your artillery will fire and destroy the cannon.

There are two new icons on the screen symbolising the number of cannons remaining for each side. The Mexican cannons are on the left, in green and the American cannons are on the right of the screen in red. There are 8 each to start with.

Be careful, because the American cannons will open fire and launch a cannonball right at you which will send you flying backwards and cause a fair bit of damage. Try to take cover behind the obstacles on the bridge, but you'll also have to be aware of enemy soldiers who might try to flank you too. Another solution is to head down to the river and take cover behind the base of the bridge. Duck behind the brick wall whenever you see a cannonball flying your way then pop back out to fire off another flare.

Your primary focus should be to fire off a flare, then spam the R2 button until you can light another flare, then immediately target the next cannon and fire away. You should be able to take out 3 or 4 cannons reasonably quickly, although bear in mind, sometimes the cannons won't be destroyed with your first flare.

Once you've destroyed 3 cannons, or after a certain amount of time (maybe a minute or two), a cutscene will usually kick in.

Cutscene

An American soldier charges forward and waves his troops to advance.

You now need to continue taking out the American artillery, but watch out for the soldiers who will also endlessly spawn.

Once again, I'm not 100% sure if this part of the level continues when you get a certain number of enemy kills, or after a specific amount of time, but you don't have to destroy all of the cannons. That said, I definitely recommend you do try to take them all out if you can as it will make the next part of the level a bit easier.

Keep shooting away at the blue soldiers who will be swarming around the water at the base of the bridge and eventually, another cutscene will kick in.

Cutscene

General Diego meets two of his soldiers under the brige while explosions are happening all around. "There are too many of them. The bridge must be destroyed. Set the charges where you must" he orders.

"But General, that would be suicide" responds one of his men.

"It certainly will be if you don't. Ándale! Ándale!" threatens Diego.

You now need to keep Juan and Alonso alive while they set the charges. If you took out all of the cannons, it will certainly help them avoid damage. You can continue using your flare to take out the remainder now, but ideally you'll want to follow them around at the base of the bridge and take out the endless waves of enemies who will attack. The second you leave them alone, they'll come under fire and take damage. If they both die, you'll fail the mission.

Keep running back and forth as you see messages which say "A Charge has been set!". The soldiers will run back and forth to each end of the bridge to set their charges and you'll need to keep them alive until they've set around 6 of them.

There's no counter on the screen, but if you count how many times you see the message at the top, you'll know when you're getting close.

Cutscene

Once all of the charges have been set, we see aerial footage of them detonating and the bridge is blown sky high, left full of holes and in flames.

A short time later, General Diego and Colonel Daren are standing together.

"Ándale, Ándale! This will teach those gringos to cross the Rio Grande!" says Diego as his men lead a number of prisoners towards them.

"No uniform, he must be a spy. Bring him to me" suggests Colonel Daren as one of the prisoners isn't dressed in army colors.

The man is pushed to his knees as Daren tells the men to "Take him to the river and shoot him like a dog!".

"No, no, no! I'm not a spy. I'm a businessman. Please! I was just trying to get across the river" pleads the man as Diego's men try to drag him away. "Please, I have gold. Lots of gold!".

"Ha ha. You lie to save your pathetic life" responds Diego.

"No! It's true! It's true! I have gold!" swears the man.

"Bring him to me" demands Diego.

"It's lots of gold, more gold than you've ever seen. A gold mine, and it's just over the border in the territory! If you spare my life, I can give you half" offers the man.

"Why shouldn't I take all of it?" questions Diego.

"Cause you don't know where it is" explains the man.

"You better speak fast. We need some privacy..." orders General Diego as his men are ushered away. "Now, tell me more about this gold mine".

"Truth be told, there is one little problem. I only own half the claim" explains the man. "My partner Nate owns the other half".

"And what if I kill your partner?" asks Diego.

"Then that would make us... partners. Partner" suggests the man as he offers a handshake to Diego.

"Hahahahaha!" laughs Diego as he shakes hands with the man, who we now understand is Griffon, Nate's former partner who we heard about in the opening chapter of the game.

We cut back to the present, with Red still in the cell. He asks Sheriff Bartlett "Where would I find this Diego?".

"He rides through the territory to deliver gold to the Governor once a week. He rests his horses at Devil's Fork. It won't be easy. That wagon is like a fortress on wheels" explains the Sheriff as he opens the cell and lets Red go free.

"The charges are dropped, if you reckon you can bring him in, dead or... well dead'll do" continues the Sheriff before handing the revolver back to Red.

"Much obliged" says Sheriff Bartlett as Red leaves his office.

Tips

All of the cheats are useful for this one. With Invincibility, you should be able to ignore the enemies and ensure you destroy all of the cannons in the middle section of the mission which will help to prevent some damage to the charge setters later on.

When it comes to the final section with the charge setters, make sure you follow them as best you can and try to put yourself in between them and any enemies. Kill the enemies as quickly as you can but there is a fair amount of luck involved in this as you need to hope they don't get ambushed by enemies while they're planting the charges.

You'll have to run back and forth under the bridge about 4 times until they finish setting all of the charges, so ensure you keep firing away and taking out any of the blue jacketed enemies who come near.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
