Red Dead RevolverRed Dead Revolver - Story Mission Guide

Stagecoach

Published by Psy
Last Updated

Buffalo Soldier catches a ride on a supply wagon full of TNT and must defend it from Diego's men.

Chapter 18

"Some say that wagon drivers were the true heroes of the West. They faced more danger and saved more lives than the bravest of sheriffs. This route was one of the worst."

You're in control of Buffalo Soldier for this level.

Cutscene

After being freed from prison in the mine, Buffalo Soldier flags down a passing stagecoach, asking the driver "Hey there, you going to Brimstone?".

"Close enough, I suppose. The express road passes about a mile outside of town" responds the driver.

"Well, I got to get to the governors office so he can call out the troops. There's trouble heading from down South" explains Buffalo.

"Well, climb on back soldier" suggests the stagecoach driver.

EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

Not applicable for this mission.

When the level starts, you're in control of Buffalo Soldier and standing on the back of the wagon. You can move around a little and it's impossible to fall off the wagon. A health bar for the "Stagecoach" is displayed at the top left of the screen and you'll notice Buffalo is in control of a new weapon called the "Lightning Rifle" which comes with infinite ammo.

If you hold L1 and press X, which would usually be 'dodge-roll', Buffalo will lie down in the back of the wagon so he can take cover. This probably isn't something you'll need to do, however, as your job is to protect the wagon and driver from damage. You're not really the target so won't take much damage on this level.

If you've filled a Deadeye bar, pressing R2 will fire a large explosive round which, unline Annie's Faith rifle, the explosive shot does have area affect capabilities. If you fire it at the ground near some enemies, it can take out multiple people at once.

This level is a fixed on-rails shooter, there's no way to speed it up, you just have to stand on the back of the wagon until it reaches the end of the road. Over time, enemies will attack in groups of 4, riding horses. They'll approach from all different directions, but it's not random so read on below to know exactly where they're coming from so you can take them all down as quickly as possible.

Cutscene

The camera cuts to a group of 4 Mexican soldiers, wearing their green outfits, approaching the stagecoach on horseback.

The first wave of enemies will approach from the South-West (back-right) of the stagecoach (lets assume facing directly behind is South). Each of them will go down in a single shot, and their hitboxes seem to be greatly increased for this level, so firing a bullet anywhere near them should hit. Try to take all four of them down. They'll run diagonally behind the stagecoach, heading across to the South-East.

Almost immediately, four more enemies will approach from the South-East (back-left), right where the first group of horses disappeared.

Continue facing to the South-East (back-left) as that's where another wave of four horseback enemies will appear from.

A short time later, another wave of four enemies will approach from the South-West (back-right), similar to where the first wave came from.

After a short break, this time you'll have two enemies approaching from the South-West (back-right) and two approaching from the South-East (back-left). They'll run directly across the road to the back of the wagon.

Once the horses disappear, four more enemies will show up from exactly the same positions as before; two from the South-West (back-right) and two from the South-East (back-left).

There'll be a break of around 5 seconds now and you'll hear the coach driver say "They're coming from the front now!".

The next few waves of enemies will approach from in front of the stagecoach, so turn around and face the direction of travel.

Two enemies will approach from the North-West (front-left) and two more will join them from the North-East (front-right). They'll cross paths in the middle of the road giving you a good opportunity to hit them quickly.

After another short break, four more enemies will approach from the same directions as before, two from the North-West (front-left) and two from the North-East (front-right).

Immediately after the horses disappear, four more enemies will all run across the road from the North-East (front-right).

You'll have a good break now of around 10 seconds then the coach driver will call out "Seems like they wanna surround us" before Buffalo asks him "Can't you go any faster?". As he says this, four enemies will run across the road in front of the wagon from the North-West (front-left) so be ready. They'll then run along the road and loop around behind the wagon.

A few seconds later, the driver will call out "more coming from the rear" and you'll spot four more enemies approaching from the South-West (back-right). This time they charge straight towards the wagon so it's more important to take them out quickly.

You'll have a good 10-15 seconds of peace then the driver will call out "looks like one last ambush" and four final horses will approach. They seem to run across the back of the wagon, essentially approaching from the East (left) and West (right) but will end up on the road behind you.

Assuming you kept the stagecoach in one piece, the level will end a short time later as the driver exclaims "Sweet Mary, mother of God, you got them all!". He says this when you finish the level, regardless of how many you missed.

Post-Mission

There are no rewards for completing this mission as it rolls onto the next mission automatically.

BOUNTY HUNTER MODE

After completing the story, you'll be able to replay each mission in "Bounty Hunter Mode" which includes an optional objective to complete. Beating the mission and completing the objective will provide a reward.

Objective
Kill 40 enemies.
Reward
Cheat Unlocked: "No HUD" - All 2D graphical elements are removed from the screen, including ammo, health, deadeye, money, crosshairs and deadeye lock-on targets.

Tips

You'll need to kill almost all of the enemies in the mission to pass this objective, although you can technically miss 8 of the 48 enemies and still pass.

None of the cheats are hugely helpful because Buffalo Soldier doesn't have Deadeye. If you try to use it, he'll fire his secondary shot which is an explosive round that can be quite useful if you aim at the ground near a horse, so Infinite Deadeye will give you an unlimited number of those shots.

The problem with the explosions is that it makes it quite hard to see if you've got all of the enemies so you can end up missing them in the smoke. I prefer to just use the rifle. One shot anywhere near the enemy on the horse should be enough to take them down.

The enemies usually appear in groups of 4. They'll show up in the following order (relative to where you need to aim):

  • 4 enemies from the back right of the stagecoach.
  • 4 enemies from the back left of the stgecoach, appearing almost exactly where the first lot of horses disappear.
  • 4 more enemies from the back left of the stagecoach.
  • 4 enemies from the back right of the stagecoach.
  • 4 enemies from behind the stagecoach, 2 from the left and 2 from the right.
  • 4 more enemies from behind the stagecoach, 2 from the left and 2 from the right.
  • 4 enemies in front of the stagecoach, 2 from the left and 2 from the right.
  • 4 more enemies in front of the stagecoach, 2 from the left and 2 from the right.
  • 4 enemies in front of the stagecoach, coming from the right, although sometimes they'll glitch and two of them will fall off their horses.
  • 4 enemies in front of the stagecoach, coming from the left.
  • 4 enemies coming from the back right of the stagecoach, mostly to the right.
  • 4 enemies in front of the stagecoach, two from the left and two from the right, although they're quite far spread out. Two of them are almost behind the stagecoach before they arrive.

That makes 48 enemies in total and you need to kill at least 40, so there's a little bit of leeway. As soon as the final wave of enemies are dealt with you'll be told "Bounty hunter goal reached!" if you got enough, otherwise the game will offer you the chance to retry.

Warning: I had a number of issues with the game crashing (PS4 version, playing on PS5) right after completing this mission and clicking to "quit" after the score screen. It ended up corrupting my save game but luckily my PlayStation had a backup and all I had to do was replay this mission, but it crashed again the next time I played it and the same thing happened.

On my third attempt I disabled "widescreen" mode in the picture settings and turned off all cheats right at the end of the mission and I was able to get through the score screen without it crashing. Very odd!

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
