Cutscene

Red climbs over the rocks and makes his way towards the ruins in the center of Sunset Canyon.

EXCELLENT RATING REQUIREMENTS

You must successfully pass at least 3 of these 4 targets.

  • Accuracy: 66%
  • Damage Taken: 50%
  • Time: 5:45
  • Best Combo: $200

As soon as you're in control of Red, the game explains "To view the level map, press the START button and select Map". You can check this out if you want to, but the level isn't particularly big anyway so it's not really needed.

There are actually 3 ways you can progress this level:

  • Kill all of the soldiers
  • Steal the horse
  • Approach the bridge

Option 1: Kill The Soldiers

Killing the soldiers is the most time consuming way of getting through the mission as there are around 8 to 10 of them scattered around the area. They will drop weapons that you may not have acquired so far when you kill them however.

Option 2: Steal The Horse

Stealing the horse is the tactic outlined below for Bounty Hunter mode, and is by far the quickest way to get through the level. As soon as you get on the horse, Diego's stagecoach will appear. It's possible to jump straight up the hill, ahead of you at the start of the level, then run straight into the ruins and get on the horse within about 5 seconds!

To do this, run towards the ruins when you first start and you'll see a small boulder at the base of the small cliff.

Jump on top of the boulder which will then give you the boost you need to jump up the cliff.

From there you can just run straight into the ruins where you'll find a horse.

As you reach it, press Square to climb on. For Bounty Hunter mode, you might want to crouch down with L3 and wait for the soldiers to walk away before sneaking to the horse, but in story mode, it doesn't matter if you get spotted because a cutscene will kick in the second you climb onto the horse.

Option 3: Reach The Bridge

The bridge is at the furthest point from where you start the level. If you go through the ruins and keep going straight, you'll eventually come to it. You can also sneak around the outside of the level, potentially using knives to take down the enemies.

Getting there without being spotted is going to be challenging given there are soldiers scattered all around the area, but once you've been detected you can just ignore them and run straight there.

As soon as you reach the base of the bridge, the stagecoach will appear, and it'll start right next to where you are.

Stagecoach Fight

Either way, however you manage to trigger the next section of the level (I personally much prefer the horse stealing route), you'll now be in a boss fight against the stagecoach.

It spawns on the bridge at the top of the area and will drive around in circles. There's a gattling gun on the back of it which will open fire when it can see you, and a guy inside who will hang out of the window and shoot at you too.

You can shoot the stagecoach itself to cause it damage, but it'll take quite a lot of shots. Bear in mind, too, that shooting the stagecoach counts as a shot off-target - in other words it will decrease your accuracy - which matters if you're going for the excellent rating.

The best tactic is to focus on the stagecoach driver. Use Deadeye and target him specifically, trying to get headshots where possible. He'll take much more damage than the stagecoach but his damage will decrease the overall stagecoach health too. You can also target the enemy who will pop out of the side of the stagecoach too.

Chase it around the area and keep firing away until the health bar is empty.

Cutscene

The stagecoach explodes and the driver is thrown to the ground.

A short time later, Red is inspecting the carnage when he is approached from behind and knocked unconscious by a karate chop to the head from Colonel Daren.

Before he can do any further damage, General Diego grabs Daren and tells him "I want him alive, I have questions for this one... Take him to the Gold Mine!".

The camera cuts to a Native American man sitting high above the action on a rock who has witnessed the events below.

Post-Mission Rewards

The following rewards are unlocked on the score screen after passing the mission.

Completion
Bounty: Stagecoach - $500
Good Rating
Weapon Upgrade: Twin Revolvers
Excellent Rating
Increase Maximum Deadeye
BOUNTY HUNTER MODE

After completing the story, you'll be able to replay each mission in "Bounty Hunter Mode" which includes an optional objective to complete. Beating the mission and completing the objective will provide a reward.

Objective
Steal a horse without being spotted.
Reward
Showdown Stage: Sunset Canyon  + Shop Item: "Coach"

Tips

This objective can be completed within about 10 seconds of starting the mission.

The horse you need to acquire is in the middle of the ruins at the center of the level. As soon as you start the mission, run forward and jump your way up the small cliff / hill using the small boulder as a stepping stone.

As you approach the ruins you'll hear two guards inside who will patrol the area. As soon as you see the guard walking off to the left, away from the horse, crouch down with L3 and quickly move over to the horse and press Square to climb on.

If you don't get there quick enough, you might have to wait around for him to loop back around so you can sneak past him when he's heading the other way, but if you get there as quickly as you can from the start of the mission, you can practically just crouch down and head straight for the horse.

If you get spotted you'll instantly fail the challenge and the game will ask you to retry, so just keep trying until you get it right.

Once you're on the horse, just chase after the stagecoach and fire away until it blows up.

All Bounty Hunter challenges are much easier if you unlock and enable the "Invincibility", "Infinite Deadeye" and "Golden Gun" cheats. For more info, read about Cheats in Red Dead Revolver.

Cheats
Unlike other games in the series, Red Dead Revolver doesn't feature any enterable cheats, however they can be unlocked in "Bounty Hunter" mode after completing the story.
