This is Armadillo, USA
John and Bonnie take a wagon to the town of Armadillo to purchase some medicine from the Doctor's Office.
- Fastest Time: 3:25
John meets Bonnie at the front of her house.
She explains she's heading into Armadillo and asks if he would mind riding with her. "I've got to get some supplies and could do with the company".
"Of course" responds John.
Heading West
A wagon is parked out front and Bonnie climbs into the passenger seat. She says Marston can drive the wagon since he's a terrifying bounty hunter who shouldn't be seen having a woman drive him around.
You're instructed to "Get on the wagon with Bonnie" which is marked with a blue blip on the radar. You're also told "To get on a wagon, approach the driver's seat and press Triangle". You'll need to walk past the horses to the other side of the wagon before you can climb on.
As you set off, you're told "When driving a wagon, tap X to accelerate and use the left analog stick to steer".
You're also told "To slow down and stop the wagon, hold R1. Continue holding R1 when stopped to move backwards".
The game explains how the radar works with regards to waypoints and destinations. "The yellow line highlighted on the map shows the shortest route that is safe for your current transport".
Finally, you're told "Hold X to maintain speed. If you overwork the horses, they won't pull the wagon efficiently".
Continue driving the wagon to the West, down a large hill past Mescalero. It's usually around here where John explains "I just know there are two theories to arguin' with women. And neither one works" before Bonnie answers back "I'm not even going to dignify that gibberish with a response".
Follow the path and keep right as you pass Coot's Chapel on the left.
Eventually you'll reach the town of Armadillo as the game suggests you "Hold R1 to slow down".
Continue down the main street and make sure you don't run anyone over! You'll spot a yellow marker in front of the general store where you can pull up.
The camera shows the main strip of Armadillo, which is the biggest town in New Austin, full of things to see and do.
"So, this is Armadillo. Manhattan it is not, but it does okay for us. Most important thing for you right now is getting yourself into Doctor Johnson's office to purchase some medicine. The first one's on me" explains Bonnie.
Marston thanks her and explains he'll pay her back.
"I'm sure you shall. The doc's a good fellow, he saved your life, so be polite to him. Meet me in front of the general store when you're done".
Back in control of John, you're told to "Go to the Doctors office" which is marked with a yellow blip across the street.
Head in through the door, and you'll be instructed to "Talk to the Doctor and purchase some medicine".
Approach the doctor at his counter and press Circle to open up the shop menu. You'll see the Medicine is free, so press X to buy it. You can also press Triangle on any item to read more information about it.
Once you've got the medicine, close out of the shop menu and head back outside. The game will explain "Medicine and other consumable items are stored in your Satchel. Press the touch pad to open your Satchel".
Pressing the touch pad to open the satchel will display your consumables as the game explains "This is the Satchel. Use the left analog stick to select an item. Once an item is selected you can press X to use it".
Make your way back across the street towards Bonnie. More help text will inform you "As you get injured the screen will gradually turn red. When it is dark red you will die".
Marston meets up with Bonnie again in front of the General Store.
She thanks John for driving her. "It was nice to be able to enjoy the view for once. And a little company never hurts now and again".
Bonnie them climbs back onto her wagon, now full of supplies and tells John he should have a look around Armadillo. She also suggests he could take a stagecoach back to the ranch later.
Bonnie then sets off back to the MacFarlane's Ranch.
The camera cuts to a parked stagecoach at the other side of the General Store. "If you want to leave Armadillo there are usually stagecoaches loading and unloading behind the freight station".
After the mission you'll receive your rewards, while the game continues explaining a number of new features you've just gained access to.
Firstly, you'll be told "You can now purchase and rent properties, marked with a blue house icon". Find out all about safehouses in our detailed guide.
"Once purchased or rented, you can save your game, and each location has a hitched horse and extra ammunition and items".
You're also told "New items are now available to purchase from stores!". Check out everything you'll find available in our shop items guide.
Finally, you're told "Poker is available to play at a number of locations". It's marked by a poker chip icon on the map.
You can also head to the Gunsmiths, General Store and Doctors to purchase weapons, ammo and items if you have the money. Given you probably won't have a lot at this point, it could be worth heading North past Armadillo into the flat desert area and doing a spot of hunting. You can sell any animal parts to the General Store for money which you can put towards the items they sell. Purchasing the "Rabbit's Foot" as soon as possible will probably give the biggest benefit for the smallest outlay as it'll increase how much money you find for the remainder of the game.
