Call me Bonnie

Cutscene

John visits Bonnie on the porch of her house.

Bonnie tells him she's heard about his plans to settle here and build a life.

"I'm afraid those aren't my plans. You see, I already have a life. Well, I had one, and I'm trying to reclaim it. Or maybe what you could say is that I had two, and I'm trying to end one so the other can survive".

After Bonnie gets annoyed at John constantly calling her "Miss MacFarlane", he finally decides to explain his back story to her.

"Miss MacFarlane, I'm married. I have a son. I had a daughter, but she died. Years before that I rode in a gang. We robbed banks, trains, held people ransom. We killed people we didn't like. Bill Williamson was in that gang. Now, if I don't capture my former brother in arms, great harm will befall my family. Now, I don't suppose any of this is very interesting to you but, I hope it explains why I wasn't so eager to talk about it".

Marston continues...

"Even in this new country, memories don't really fade. My father was an illiterate Scot, born on the boat into New York. He never saw his homeland, but to hear him talk about it, you would imagine he only ever ate haggis and wore a kilt. And he hated the English for what they had done to his great-grandparents he'd never met. People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven".

"My father died when I was 8 years old. His eyes were...well, let's just say he was blinded in a barfight south of Chicago. My mother died during childbirth. She was a prostitute and he was her, well I don't know what he was. Then I was sent off to an orphanage and ran away and fell in with a gang".

"My word, what a difficult life you've lived" exclaims Bonnie.

She then asks if John can lend a hand to take the herd out to pasture.

Once in control of John, you're told to "Mount your horse" which is marked with a blue blip on the radar.

Run over the road and climb on, then you're told to "Accompany Bonnie" who is now marked with the blue blip.

Follow Bonnie to the pen at the South-West corner of the ranch.

Inside, you'll spot a bunch of cows waiting patiently to be taken out to the nearby field.

You're told to "Move into position behind the herd" which is marked with a yellow cross.

Get behind the 5 cows at the marker to get them moving. Get the cows out of the pen with the help of other workers and then across the tracks. Bonnie will wait before and after the tracks in case you run into issues.

As you set off, the game will explain the controls regarding herding cattle. You're told to "Get behind the cows in order to get them to move forward".

"Slowly sweep back and forth behind the herd to keep them moving in a single direction".

"To steer the herd left, move behind the right side of the herd. To steer the herd right, move behind the left side of the herd".

Follow the cows and encourage them to head towards the bigger group of cattle.

Once they're all together, you're instructed to "Herd the cows to the old oak tree". The cows are displayed on the radar as a large blue arrow with a cows head icon, the tree is marked with a yellow blip.

On the way, you're told you can "Press d-pad Up to drive the herd. Holler at the cows to make the herd move faster". John will shout and wave his arms which will cause the cows to speed up. This is useful to learn for future Gold Medal challenges.

Guide all of the cows to the yellow marker where a small cutscene will kick in.

Cutscene

The cows settle down in their new location, looking rather happy with themselves.

"You're not bad with the herd. Ranching might be your true calling, Mr. Marston. Either that or you were a cow in a past life".

"Thank you, Miss MacFarlane" says John, no doubt frustrating Bonnie again at his refusal to use her name.

After the mission you'll receive your first financial reward, a whopping $5, as well as the customary Honor and Fame increases.

Gold Medal Tips

  • Run to your horse and then to the pen. You don't need to wait for Bonnie but you can stick with her for the conversation and still get gold.
  • Keep both herds moving the best you can. You shouldn't run into any big issues.
